FACILITIES
The Law Library is distributed throughout the law school. Circulation and reference services are available at the service desk located on level 1, with a reading room on level 1 for students as well as the general public. Books can be checked out at the main service desks on level 1 and 2. Additional library support is available through the law library website.
RARE BOOK ROOM:
The library’s rare book room is located on level 1 near the service desk. Patrons needing access to items in the rare book room should ask for assistance at one of the service desks. We recommend that patrons needing access to the rare book room make an appointment in advance by contacting Dan Burn (dan.burn@law.utah.edu).
READING ROOM:
The library’s reading room is located on the first floor. Library patrons may use this room to study and use their computers. Covered beverages (no-spill cups) and quiet snacks are permitted in the reading room.
RESTROOMS:
Women’s and men’s restrooms are located off the hallway near the elevators on each floor.
LOCKERS:
Lockers are located throughout the building for the exclusive use of law students. Students must bring their own lock and can sign up for a locker using the online Locker Reservations tool.
SAFETY:
An alarm will sound in case of fire. Everyone must exit the building quickly and in an orderly manner. Emergency exits are located throughout the building. Exiting through these doors will cause an alarm to sound. Please become familiar with the locations of exits and fire extinguishers. Avoid running on the stairs and do not slide down any bannisters. Use care near the railings around the atrium, and do not throw or drop any objects into the atrium.
Please don’t leave your property unattended – thefts have occurred in the library.
STUDY ROOMS:
Study rooms are for the exclusive use of members of the law school community.
TECHNOLOGY:
Five computers located on the first floor are available for use by public patrons. To access, a patron must show ID at the service desk on level one and then will be given a username and password to log on. These public computers contain Microsoft Word software and allow access to the Internet. When using the computers, patrons must adhere to the Library Internet Use Policy. We do not offer printing services to the public. You should plan on bringing a flash drive or emailing documents to yourself.
The University provides unsecured basic wireless Internet access to visitors. Users needs to sign in each time they connect. To access, choose the UGuest wireless connection, press Connect, and then try and browse to a website. It will redirect you to a login page. Click the login button on the left-hand side of the screen; you will be asked to enter a cell phone number and code to connect.
- High End Scanners: The library has three “KIC” (Knowledge Imaging Center) scanners – one is located near the compact shelving on level one; the others are located on levels four and five. With these high-tech scanners, users can create keyword searchable PDFs which can be saved to a flash drive or sent as an email attachment. The face-up scanning capability enables users to capture multiple pages quickly. The scanner produces either color or black & white images. There is a fifteen-minute limit on using the scanner when others are waiting.
- Microform Reader: A reader-printer for downloading copies of microforms is available in the area near the compact shelving on the first floor.
- Printers and Photocopiers: We do not offer printing services to the public. You should plan on bringing a flash drive or emailing documents to yourself. Likewise, we have no public photocopiers but you can scan and email documents to yourself.
