Professor Teneille Brown
, an expert in biosciences and medical ethics, wrote a paper in 2020, “Why We Fear Genetic Informants: Using Genetic Genealogy to Catch Serial Killers,” that a judge cited extensively in a new order in the Bryan Kohberger murder case. Kohberger is accused of killing four University of Idaho students in November 2022.
Judge John Judge is ordering an “in-camera” review of the state’s evidence, which relied on a process called investigative genetic genealogy, and resulted in Kohberger’s arrest. Kohberger’s defense team now wants to have access to lab reports and internal police documents to demonstrate they followed the right process.
